NYS Family Alliance

LINC has been awarded two $15,000 grants from the New York State Family Literacy Alliance, one each for work in each district, to expand and strengthen family literacy services with the goal of creating a more comprehensive family literacy system for each community. Ten grants to local alliances were awarded statewide and LINC is the only recipient in New York City.

The grant applications were prepared at the community level with representation from a wide array of school personnel, parents, literacy providers and community-based organizations. Because of the collaborative, team-building work that is central to the LINC approach, LINC was able to bring together a broad representation of community stakeholders to respond to the Requests for Proposal.

In District 10 the approach of the Local Alliance for Family Literacy Services is to utilize the District Office of Parent Involvement as the "hub" of Alliance activities, engaging the district in a collaboration that will remain housed and administered within the district. Some 150 organizations and agencies will eventually be involved. Both an abstract of the proposal from District 10 and a list of initial members are included with this renewal request.
