April is City’s First Readers (CFR) Month. Find the Free & Fun Literacy Events Nearest You and Get Ready for the Grand Finale!

Updated: Apr 1

We know that families are busy and there isn’t always time to sit down and read a book, which is why City’s First Readers (CFR)* helps families find ways to bring reading activities into daily chores and provides a wide variety of free and fun literacy programs across the five boroughs. There is a CFR program for every family, whether you are looking for play time activities, free books and toys, or workshops that provide tips and tools for parents and caregivers, and this April there are more opportunities than ever!

April is CFR month and our 17 partner organizations are excited to offer special events around the city that are designed to set children up for success in school and in life! To get started, download the CFR bookmark which contains interactive activities for families and is your ticket to a month of fun. With the completion of three activities listed on the front of the bookmark, families are eligible to participate in CFR’s grand finale events and win a prize!

The grand finale includes free admission** to either the Staten Island Children’s Museum, the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, or The Bronx Children’s Museum, and one free book per family.

Don’t miss out! Download your CFR bookmark now or contact Karen Rogel, Director of Strategic Initiatives at krogel@lincnyc.org.

  * City’s First Readers is funded by the New York City Council.

** There is limited transportation available for each event.
