Commemorating Very Involved Parent (VIP) Graduates Near and Far

Congratulations to LINC’s latest Very Involved Parent (VIP) Academy graduates! This spring, over 75 dedicated caregivers took their literary commitment to a new level.

LINC’s Very Involved Parent (VIP) Academy trains parents to become literacy advocates in their neighborhoods. Graduates are equipped to deliver community reading programs, spread LINC’s mission, and promote positive reading habits with other families.

In Staten Island, Senator Scarcella-Spanton presented VIP certificates to graduates at the Sahara Mediterranean Grill, where they engaged in meaningful conversation about parenting and mentoring reading habits, followed by activities that reinforced the strong bonds VIPs form with one another. At the cornerstone of our work is the knowledge that it takes a village to raise readers. In addition to stepping into their role as community changemakers, becoming a LINC VIP means joining a growing, enthusiastic group of caregivers who can support one another through the parenting process.

In The Bronx, LINC VIPs from Fordham and Kingsbridge celebrated at one of their favorite spots, Caridad Restaurant. They proudly spoke about how they fell in love with LINC programs and how they consistently feel empowered to make changes in their communities.

In Manhattan, our Inwood and Washington Heights teams came together to welcome their newest Very Involved Parent Academy graduates at 809 Bar & Grill. Following lunch, families and staff were thrilled to receive accolades from the offices of Councilmember Carmen De La Rosa and Assemblymember Manny De Los Santos.

In addition to our New York City neighborhoods, LINC is pleased to welcome graduates virtually as well. While visiting her family in Guyana, LINC ‘s Community Engagement Specialist for South Jamaica, Beverley Philips conducted a mini graduation ceremony for a very special family: Chandrawattie Ramdeen, her husband Leroy Donald Fazal and their baby Caelan Zane Fazal.

All graduates receive a graduation certificate, a specially designed LINC VIP t-shirt and hoodie, and $100 towards a college savings account for one child.
