LINC & Fidelis Care Host Reading with LOVE on February 14

Updated: Feb 16

On Wednesday morning, February 14, over 16 local Washington Heights families joined LINC and Fidelis Care for a new kind of Valentine’s Day celebration: Reading with Love! LINC’s joyful early literacy programs are always infused with love but yesterday, they honored the many different bonds and memories we form with others and the unique role that literacy plays in those relationships.

LINC staff and one of our Very Involved Parents (VIP) did a bilingual read-aloud of Love You, Hug You, Read to You by Tish Rabe and gave away free copies of Baby Touch, I Love You by Ladybird Books, along with treats and materials to create a heart-shaped craft at home.

Reading is a loving activity that builds connections. It gives us the opportunity to learn about the world and appreciate others. The benefits are exponential, impacting all aspects of life, and essential for success when children are ready to enter school. Younger children see their older siblings reading and they pick up books.

Special guest and NY1 Noticias reporter, Anny Ruiz saw that with her children, 12 years old and 3 years old. A fan of LINC programs and proud parent of three girls, Anny attended our Inwood Ring Garden program with her 3-year-old this past summer and was hooked. She surrounds her children with books and is eager to spread the word about the importance of reading in her community. We are delighted that she chose to focus on LINC and the love of reading this week, as she just returned from maternity leave with her third child (4 months old).

Thank you, Anny and NY1 Noticias for amplifying our message and to Fidelis Care for generously donating your office space for this program.
