LINC's Diversity Through Literacy Campaign Featured Live on the PIX 11 Morning Show

Updated: 7 days ago

April is National Diversity Month and on Thursday, April 17, PIX 11 News captured the essence of LINC’s 5th annual Diversity Through Literacy campaign on live TV. Anchors Dan Mannarino and Vanessa Freeman interviewed LINC’s South Jamaica Neighborhood Manager, Demelza Wilson and children's author and founder of Encantos, Susie Jaramillo, to raise awareness about the importance of representation in children’s literature.

Susie is a longtime LINC supporter and author of several bestselling bilingual children’s books that encourage readers to learn and explore through culturally diverse stories and songs. LINC amplifies diversity in children’s literature all year long through our powerful, community-oriented programming. This campaign is our opportunity to highlight this work by bringing unique stories featuring local authors and illustrators to families across New York City.

Books play a critical role in children’s understanding of the world and our hope is that participants will honor their authentic selves and build both confidence and empathy as they read

There are three more Diversity Through Literacy events scheduled for next week and it’s not too late to register.

Join one of our programs with your little ones or attend our spring gala on May 19 where Susie will be presented with LINC’s Champion for Children award.

Literacy is power for life.

Thank you to our partners at PIX 11 News for recognizing our work and for the opportunity to amplify our message.
