Over a year ago, LINC embarked on a process to refresh our brand and establish a visual identity that better represents the families that we serve.
Today we are thrilled to launch the new LINC brand, featuring an updated logo, a whole universe of colors and illustrations, and a name change, all designed to inspire a feeling of joy for reading and celebrating the efforts of our communities.
Same LINC, New LOOK! Please read on for our rebrand FAQ.
1. Is Literacy Inc. (LINC) still the official name of the organization?
We’re still—and always will be—LINC, but now those letters stand for “Literacy in Community” instead of “Literacy Inc.”
For over 25 years, we’ve called ourselves LINC, which symbolizes our commitment to linking parents to vital existing resources in their community and empowering them to become literacy champions. Our legal name remains Literacy Inc. but the letters LINC now stand for “Literacy in Community” to better express who we are, what we do, how we work and what we value. To be “Literacy in Community” means that we are all united in creating a more equitable world for our children through the power of literacy.
2. Has LINC’s mission changed?
No, our mission remains the same. LINC equips children with foundational literacy skills essential for academic achievement by empowering families and mobilizing the community.
3. Are you still serving 0-5 year olds?
Yes! LINC is committed to empowering families with children, birth through five.
4. Are your programs still free?
Yes. All of our programs are and will always be free for families.
5. Will you still be in my community?
Yes! LINC will continue to provide in-person programs in each of the 8 LINC neighborhoods across all five boroughs of New York City. Our eight neighborhoods are Inwood, Washington Heights, Fordham, Kingsbridge, East Harlem, South Jamaica, East New York, and the Northern Shore of Staten Island.
In addition, LINC is currently piloting a program expansion in the East End of Long Island and will expand its virtual programs to increase access beyond our current communities. We are always excited to see families log on to our programs from around the United States and the world.
6. Is LINC decreasing its number of programs or downsizing its staff?
No. We are increasing our programming and will be expanding virtually to new neighborhoods in 2023. Our staff is the largest it’s ever been and we expect to sustain our growth as we create more impact.
7. So what is changing?
Only our brand, featuring an updated logo, a whole universe of colors and illustrations, and a name change, Literacy in Community, all designed to inspire a feeling of joy for reading and celebrating the efforts of our communities.
Keep your eyes peeled! LINC’s website www.lincnyc.org will be updated to match our new look and will be launched in Spring 2024.
