Meet the Women of LINC: Debora Mulrain, Chief Organizational and Community Advisor
What do you do at LINC? I see myself as the keeper of LINC's original message. It's not a hard job because I'm happy to say we are all still working to the original goal. But here is a more concrete answer to some of the things I do: Represent LINC in community events and special events Provide feedback and support programmatic and operational improvements Establish collaborative relationships and practices Advise the Executive Team Communicate and safeguard the organization’s culture goals and strategic priorities How did you get involved in early literacy work? I got involved in early childhood literacy when I became a parent, and probably long before that. Books have always been a part of my life, from reading with my great grandmother and my mother to playing school with dolls and "teaching" them how to read. How does being an organization run by women inform LINC's approach to educational justice? I know some folks are going to take issue with my answer, but just as the kitchen is the heart of the house, women are the heart of the family and the ones who are, for the most part, the day-to-day caregivers of the family. This is an organization run by women of so many varied experiences and from a variety of backgrounds, I feel this gives us insight into so many aspects of family life, community life and the social issues of the time with an eye toward the future.
