Another World is Possible for our Children

Social justice is built on educational justice; educational justice is founded on literacy. The insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th has left a dark imprint on our collective consciousness. It is a bleak strand in our country's often difficult narrative. At LINC, we are devastated and saddened by these violent events and unequivocally denounce these and any domestic terrorist attacks against our democratic values. As we get ready to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and welcome President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, we would like to share our vision of the world we are creating together for our children.
“ I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear. ” - Martin Luther King Jr. Our children deserve the safety of a world free of hate and violence. A world where the truth is protected, honesty is valued, and accountability is instrumental to our ability to build an equitable society for all of us to enjoy. Our children deserve a world where our cultural and linguistic differences are celebrated as assets that enrich our imagination and increase our understanding of humanity. Our children’s wellbeing and academic achievement depends so much on their ability to trust the adults around them, feel safe in their environments, and benefit from the comfort of a loving parent who reads, talks, sings, and plays with them. As a respected leader in a growing community of advocates committed to ending the literacy crisis in New York City, LINC is determined to build a world worthy of our children.

Reading ignites change. Books comfort. Books empower. Words matter. LINC’s work with parents and children, caregivers and community helps to safeguard our children’s equitable access to educational opportunity. Join us in creating a more equitable world for America’s children. During our current and unprecedented times, LINC’s work to support families reading together at home is more important than ever.
