Updated: 4 days ago

NEW YORK, NY, October 30, 2024 – Literacy in Community (LINC), an award-winning early literacy nonprofit, is pleased to announce that our Executive Director, Shari Levine, has been named one of New York’s 2024 Power Players in Education by PoliticsNY!

PoliticsNY’s Power Players in Education list honors the most dedicated leaders in their field, those championing progress and success in all forms of education. These exemplary leaders are driving New York’s evolving educational landscape to new frontiers with their expertise and innovative solutions.

Shari joined LINC’s Board of Directors in 2005 and became Executive Director in 2012. Under Shari’s leadership, LINC’s budget has grown from less than $1M to nearly $7M, a staff of 50, and programs in all five NYC boroughs.

LINC is thrilled to see Shari receive the recognition she deserves, along with her passionate peers who are shaping the future of the State of New York.

Policymakers should recognize that literacy starts at birth. The years between birth and five are crucial for building the literacy skills that we know play a significant role in academic success and lifelong well-being. They can build collaborative relationships with healthcare systems to engage expectant and new parents. They can invest in community literacy programs that make literacy visible and valued for all children and support educators’ goals once children are at the schoolhouse door.”— Shari Levine, Executive Director, Literacy in Community (LINC)

The Power Players list can be found in PoliticsNY’s morning email newsletter, Political Edge and is published in print throughout New York City in amNY Metro and other leading community news outlets. Read Shari's profile on PoliticsNY.
