On June 13th, LINC celebrated the children who placed first at their school in overall hours of reading in LINC’s 2019 T.I.G.E.R. Read-a-thon. In partnership with the Bronx Zoo, Wildlife Conservation Society, LINC hosted a ceremony at the Congo exhibit in the Flaherty Learning Center to recognize their achievement. Attendees got the chance to meet fellow Read-a-thon winners and hear from Howie Minsky, who read from his "Conserve Our Wild" book series. Our second guest reader was Julio Aquino, a Wild Animal Keeper at The Bronx Zoo, who grew up in the surrounding neighborhood. Participants left with certificates, new books, and passes that will allow them to return to the zoo with their families this summer. LINC also had the privilege of recognizing long-time T.I.G.E.R. partner, Cathy Revellese, librarian at the Creston campus in the Bronx. For a decade she has shared her creativity and enthusiasm for T.I.G.E.R. and helped LINC make the program the effective and fun event it is today. Happy Retirement, Cathy.
“I have had the pleasure of working with the LINC organization for the past 10 years. The TIGER Reading Contest is one of the highlights of the school year. It is such a wonderful way to encourage our Second Graders to read more. My school community is so lucky to have such a great partnership with LINC and the Bronx Zoo!” - Cathy
