Whether virtual or in person, it is that time of the year again--the time when we go back to school--and New York City families from all five boroughs are invited to celebrate with LINC. On Friday, August 21 at 10:00am, LINC is partnering with the renowned children’s book publisher, HarperCollins to hold its annual Back to School Celebration online. Join LINC and over 100 New York City families on Zoom for virtual literacy activities, a guest teacher appearance and other fun-filled surprises.
You may be wondering what makes LINC’s Back to School bash so special...
With summer ending and school starting, LINC’s event helps families get ready for the new academic year by interacting with children and allowing time for parents to ask questions and get the support they need. LINC staff will discuss the importance of daily routines and time management during this transition and how to use books to build critical social and emotional abilities. With our dream board activity, we will encourage families to share their hopes and dreams for the new school year.
We know that this school year will be different, and we are not sure how, so we chose a story that we can all relate to right now: Pete the Cat and the Surprise Teacher by James Dean for a bilingual read aloud.
In this charming tale, Pete the Cat is surprised to learn that his substitute teacher is his mom and Pete kindly assists as she navigates unfamiliar territory. Although improvising is not easy, this groovy cat shows us that no matter what life throws our way, we can help each other out and doing things differently can also be exciting and fun.
