On Wednesday, October 29, Literacy in Community (LINC) families will gather virtually to celebrate one of our favorite reading holidays, Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, in our own unique, sweet way. LINC's online program, The Chocolate Seed: Learning to Grow features guest author, Nettie Atkisson, a chocolate educator, a photographer, and an avid literacy advocate. Nettie is the author of The Chocolate Seed, the chosen book for this program, and Boba and Butter’s Chocolate Adventure, which she read at a LINC program earlier this year.

We salute all of the Read for the Record participants around the world. You are making history! Read for the Record connects more children and adults in shared reading experiences worldwide year after year, building early language skills and social-emotional development through generations of readers.

Jumpstart’s Read for the Record is the world’s largest shared reading experience, uniting millions to read the same book on the same day and raise awareness of early literacy. For its 20th anniversary, Read for the Record is transforming into a unique 20-week celebration that spans from October 13, 2025 through February 26, 2026.

LINC is proud to be part of a global reading community that builds awareness of the critical importance of early literacy through diverse literature. Thank you to our beloved author, Nettie Atkinsson for combining the magic of chocolate with the joy of reading to make this program possible.
