What attracted you to Literacy Inc. and what is most exciting about joining the board?
I was attracted to the mission and the strong leadership at LINC that can put that vision into action. I’m really excited to contribute my skills and knowledge while also learning so much from the other members.
Why do books or reading matter in the life of a child?
Reading sets you up for success in your life - without literacy, nothing else can follow, be it reading the subway map or going to college. Plus, it awakens a sense of curiosity about and engagement with the world.
What was your favorite book as a kid?
As a really little kid, I enjoyed the colorful animal books by Eric Carle. Later on, I loved reading historical fiction books by Ann Rinaldi and imagining myself in the midst of key American history moments.
What are you reading right now, and why?
After reading an intriguing New York Times article about it, I started Klara and the Sun by Kazuo Ishiguro. I’m also reading Traveling with Pomegranates by Sue Monk Kidd because I love her writing style and a good travel story.
Who in your life, has made a positive impact in your personal or professional growth?
My high school English/yearbook teacher inspired me to think critically and helped develop my confidence as a leader. My first manager at Unilever modeled for me how to deliver results and be a motivating boss.
What is your favorite dish?
Chocolate chip pancakes!
What do you miss the most about your pre-Covid-19 life?
Hugging my family and going out to a bustling restaurant with friends.
When Covid-19 is behind us, where would you like to travel?
Santa Fe, New Mexico to see my family. More ambitiously, on a cancelled trip to Portugal!
