Literacy in Community (LINC), an early childhood literacy non-profit, and Fidelis Care, a New York State health plan, announced its fourth year of the Diversity Through Literacy campaign. Started in 2021, Diversity Through Literacy is an annual campaign recognizing the power of children’s literature to celebrate diversity in all forms by representing unheard voices, embracing unique perspectives, sharing different cultures, and more.
Thanks to the support of children’s book publishers Nancy Paulsen Books, Lee & Low, and Encantos, LINC will hold seven in-person author events across all five NYC boroughs. Along with distributing more than 500 free books, LINC will facilitate an activity showing families how to use children’s books as mirrors to see themselves, windows to see others as equals, and doors into a world of unique and powerful possibilities.
LINC’s multigenerational, culturally responsive programming strives to uplift all of our lived experiences with authenticity. Our diversity strengthens our freedom and our shared understanding and experience in this world, and will better equip our children to solve tomorrow’s most pressing challenges.
“In addition to being a civil right, reading is one of the great joys of life. By bringing authors from diverse backgrounds into our wonderful LINC communities, our Diversity Through Literacy events help all children see themselves in--and feel included in--the world of books."- Josh Barocas, Director of Early Literacy, LINC
