Media Advisory: Council Member Eric Dinowitz to Lead Press Conference for the Launch of Sunday Service at the Kingsbridge Library on September 7

Updated: Sep 3

“The Kingsbridge Library opening on Sundays is more than just expanded hours; it’s an open door to literacy and community. Families now have more opportunities to read together, explore new stories, and connect with one another. LINC is proud to continue our partnership with the library to make these moments possible because literacy is essential to community strength. At LINC, we believe that when a child reads, a community succeeds, and Sunday openings ensure more families can share in that success.”--Laura Walsh, Chief Program Officer, LINC

What:

Council Member Eric Dinowitz will host a press conference at the Kingsbridge Library on Sunday, September 7, at 12:00 PM to celebrate the launch of 7-day service at the branch. Starting that day, the library will be open on Sundays from 1:00–5:00 PM, joining 10 other branches citywide expanding to 7-day service.

This citywide initiative was made possible through a $2 million allocation secured by the NYC Council and NYC Council Speaker Adrienne Adams in the Fiscal Year 2026 adopted budget. The new Sunday hours, beginning September 7, 2025, bring the total number of New York City libraries open on Sundays to more than 30. Council Member Dinowitz strongly advocated for the Kingsbridge Library’s inclusion in this expansion.

The addition of Sunday service at Kingsbridge Library means more opportunities for children, students, families, and all North Bronx residents to access programming, technology, study space, and other vital resources—especially on weekends when many community members are most available to use the library.
