Our Collective Impact Efforts Continue to Meet the Needs of Our Children

LINC’s collective impact work continues to evolve and embrace the digital space. In April, the Reads Initiative unveiled a new website and launched a social media campaign to connect more families to our network. The campaign resulted in thousands of digital engagements and 100 commitments to our new community movement, the Reads Initiative Pledge. Families who took the Reads Initiative Pledge committed their active participation to ensure children in South Jamaica and East New York have strong literacy support. Upon pledging, all families received a book kit including a Reads community resource guide and fun family friendly stickers to get them started. City’s First Readers (CFR) continues to provide literacy resources where and when they are needed most, including families who have been isolated during the pandemic. In order to ease COVID quarantine for families across New York City, LINC along with six additional CFR partners donated children’s books, activity sheets, and art supplies to H+H NYC. The materials were packed into Take Care Kits which the hospital provides to every family forced to quarantine as a result of a positive COVID test. Now in addition to receiving masks, sanitizer, and other PPE, families receive foundational literacy support to help their children thrive during a stressful time.
