On Saturday, April 29, over 50 families gathered at the Baisley Park Library in South Jamaica for a unique opportunity to read and roar like a dinosaur! That afternoon, NYCReads, the Queens Public Library, and the Lewis Latimer House Museum partnered to present A Spring STEAM Celebration and Dino Egg Hunt with special guest reader, Dennis M. Walcott.
Dennis M. Walcott, the President and CEO of the Queens Public Library and former Chancellor of the New York City Department of Education gave an animated rendition of the hilarious tale We Don’t Eat Our Classmates by author and illustrator Ryan T. Higgins. Mr. Walcott thanked LINC for bringing great programs, like this one to the community and noted that he has not seen the library this lively since before the pandemic.
An assortment of dinosaur related crafts followed storytime as well as a dino scavenger hunt organized by the Lewis Latimer House Museum. Dinosaur eggs were hidden around the entire library, and children tried their hands at paleontology, excavating eggs that revealed mini prizes and educational facts. All families received copies of the book and goody bags to take home.
Thank you to our partners and staff for this wonderful weekend event. We couldn’t do it without you. NYCReads families, both new and old, raved about the program and are roaring for more!
